My Experience with the Happy Nappers Pillow Toy

When I first heard of Happy Nappers, I wasn’t sure what they were. Is this a group of people who happily nap in various places? Or perhaps just photographs of people napping? I wondered. But then a friend of mine introduced me to a Happy Napper; it was one that she just got for her little girl, Cheyenne.

“Cheyenne insists on sleeping with it whenever she goes down for her nap,” my friend explained, handing me the Happy Napper for closer inspection. I reached out and took the castle shaped pillow from her outstretched hands; it was a lovely shade of purple and pink. Still not sure why a little girl would want to sleep on a pink castle, I looked up at my friend with a quizzical look. Sensing my confusion, she pressed a tiny doorbell on the castle. “You have to wake it up with the sleepy sound doorbell,” she explained.

“Of course,” I replied, listening to this particular sleepy sound doorbell. It resembled that of a snorting horse. Pleasantly surprised, I smiled up at my friend. “Cute.”

“Wait,” she said, “That’s not all.” She took the castle from my hands (since I was obviously not Happy Napper Savvy), and unzipped the little castle door. Out popped a unicorn! Then, as if by magic, my friend somehow folded the castle into the unicorn and … there was no more castle.

I scratched my head for a minute, and then had to try it myself. “May I?” I asked.

“Sure,” she said, handing the Happy Nappers pillow back to me.

I was amazed at how simple it was to fold the unicorn back into the castle. Proud of my accomplishment, I reversed the process and folded the castle up into the unicorn again. “Neat,” I said, “Zach would love one of these, but I don’t think he would want a pink castle with a unicorn.”

“Happy Nappers come in six different designs,” my friend told me.

After our visit and learning about these fun little pillows, I rushed home and got onto the internet to do some research. Right away, I found the Happy Nappers and discovered all six of their various designs. There was the pink castle and unicorn, as I already knew and five others: a pink house that folds into a ladybug (aka “Love bug”), a brown doghouse that folds into a puppy, a green and yellow house (that looks like a banana, I think?) that folds into a monkey, a gray castle with a brown door that folds into a green dragon (with tongue hanging out), and a white igloo that folds out into a penguin.

With so many cute options, it was hard for me to decide which Happy Nappers I was going to get for Zach. After some hemming and hawing and deliberation, I opted for the gray castle and green dragon. I thought it was “manly” enough for a 6 year old boy, but not too scary or mean that it would give him nightmares.
